Brandon Weiss is an associate at Bocarsly Emden, where his practice focuses on affordable housing and community development projects. He represents developers and investors in connection with the acquisition, financing and development of real estate, primarily in transactions involving the federal low-income housing tax credit.
Prior to joining Bocarsly Emden, Mr. Weiss was awarded a Skadden Fellowship to design and implement a project at Public Counsel Law Center aimed at preserving the affordability of federally-subsidized housing in Los Angeles. His work included direct representation of tenant associations and community development corporations, tracking expiring-use HUD data and developing preservation strategies, facilitating inter-agency working group meetings and engaging in policy advocacy at the federal, state and local levels.
Mr. Weiss co-authored (with James Grow) a chapter on affordable housing preservation in the ABA’s second edition of The Legal Guide to Affordable Housing Development and has presented on topics including recapitalization of the HUD-assisted housing stock and the California affordable housing preservation notice laws. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Symbolic Systems from Stanford University in 2003, and both a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School and a Master in Public Policy degree from Harvard Kennedy School in 2008.
