Jason Vargelis is a transactional real estate attorney and Of Counsel at Bocarsly Emden.  He has focused his practice in the area of affordable housing tax credit transactions.  Mr. Vargelis has broad experience representing developers, syndicators and other participants in multifamily tax credit projects utilizing a variety of funding sources, including federal and state tax credits, tax exempt bonds and state and local subsidy programs.  His experience covers lower-tier project level transactions (involving syndicators, developers and lenders), as well as upper-tier investment transactions (involving syndicators and investors).

Mr. Vargelis is a member of the California, Colorado and New York bars.  He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Vermont in 1990 and his Juris Doctor degree from Boston University School of Law in 1994.  During law school, he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Boston University Law Review.

Mr. Vargelis is the co-author of “Assessing Solar Incentives,” Novogradac Journal of Tax Credit Housing, May 2009, and “Lenders Offer Interest Rate Swaps,” Novogradac Journal of Tax Credit Housing, March 2009 (also published as “The Ins and Outs of Swaps,” Affordable Housing Finance, March 2009 Web).

Mr. Vargelis was formerly associated with Sidley Austin LLP, in New York, where he practiced in the area of securitization, as well as with Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, in San Francisco and other California and Colorado-based law firms specializing in affordable housing tax credit transactions.
